In an era where climate change and resource scarcity pose significant threats to rural livelihoods, Tower is a proud CSR partner of IIT Delhi. Together, we have pioneered the Commoning for Resilience and Equality (CoRE Stack) – a transformative Digital Public Infrastructure (DPI) designed to convert satellite and field data into land and water management insights.
The Science of Sustainability
The CoRE-Stack tool utilizes sophisticated machine learning (ML) algorithms and remote sensing to analyze vast amounts of satellite data. This enables rural communities to move beyond ad hoc planning and adopt evidence-based land and water management strategies. The tool addresses complex research problems through:
- Land-Use Analysis: Tracking historical shifts in land patterns.
- Ecology Modelling: Monitoring forest degradation and crop intensity.
- Hydrology & Water Balance: Calculating groundwater stress using hydrology models to ensure water security for agriculture.
CoRE-Stack is currently being utilized by a network of 19 Civil Society Organizations (CSOs) across 5 Indian states: Odisha, Rajasthan, Bihar, Jharkhand, and Karnataka. On the ground, 398 field workers and community resource persons act as digital bridge-builders, using these tools to help over 1375 Indian villages draft sustainable development plans.
By integrating AI with Digital Public Infrastructure, this partnership aligns with India’s vision to use technology as a social-purpose tool.
