Tower Partner with IIT Bombay: Coding a New Future for Women in Tech

By partnering with the Indian Institute of Technology Bombay (IIT Bombay),Toweris supporting the Institute of Eminence Outreach Program to support inclusive education. Under this partnership, Tower helped organize the C++ Programming Bootcamp for Women Undergraduates.

Taking place this February, the bootcamp was designed to inspire and equip young female students across India with advanced programming skills. The event attracted 325 applicants from 14 Indian states, 59 cities, and approximately 100 academic institutions across the country. A group of 90 participants were selected from 9 Indian states, 16 cities, and 15 academic institutions.

This three-day residential program brought together a rich diversity of talent and ambition, power packed with technical sessions, interactive activities, and campus tour for an immersive experience for the participants.

Prof. Krishna S. provided the keynote speech. Thereafter, the participants attended two theory cum practice sessions on Advanced Features of C++ by Prof. Ashutosh Gupta andDebugging by Prof. Varsha Apte., giving them exposure to ideas and topics that will prepare them for their future careers in the tech industry.

The core of the event was a Hackathon Challenge, where participants worked in teams to solve a programming problem designed to test and apply their new skills. These sessions emphasized collaboration and critical thinking. Toward the end of the program, all attendees received certificates acknowledging their successful participation and learning during the event.

The success of the C++ Programming Bootcamp reflects the potential of well-structured, inclusive, and high-impact educational programs.  A platform named BodhiTree, which was already under development and was enhanced through Tower’s support, played a key role as the programming platform on which all exercises were done. Thus, through the combined power of IIT Bombay’s academic rigor, BodhiTree’s evolving technology, and Tower’s timely support, this initiative has helped to enhance the quality of women’s education in India and advance the cause of scalable and meaningful technical education.

About IIT Bombay and Tower’s Partnership

IIT Bombay, one of India’s premier institutions for higher education and research, was declared an Institution of Eminence (IoE) on July 9, 2018, by the Ministry of Education. The IoE initiative was introduced to empower selected Indian institutions to attain world-class status, emphasizing excellence in teaching, research, and global engagement. Under this framework, IIT Bombay has focused on enhancing its global rankings, attracting top-tier faculty, promoting impactful research, and fostering innovation through robust academic and industrial collaborations.

As part of its IoE outreach, IIT Bombay has been actively involved in increasing accessibility to high-quality technical education across diverse socio-economic backgrounds. This aligns with India’s larger mission to ensure that affordable, transformative education reaches every corner of the country.

Tower and IIT Bombay entered into a CSR partnership to establish the Tower Research Capital Machine Learning for Social Good Lab. This collaboration targets the pressing issue of employability within the computer science and engineering domain, exacerbated by a deficiency in practical skills and disparities in gender and economic backgrounds. The lab operates the following digital tools:

  • BodhiTree, an online learning platform developed at Dept. of CSE, IIT Bombay. Designed to offer accessible, high-quality technical education, BodhiTree offers a unique blend of flexibility, interactivity, and academic depth. Built for both learners and educators, it hosts interactive multimedia books, a self-learning environment, advanced autograded Computer Science labs and near real-time discussions that replicate the classroom experience.
  • evalPro, an AI-powered auto grader designed to support automated evaluation of programming assignments and assessments with a rubric-based grading mechanism.
  • cLabs, an advanced autograding platform that provides containerized lab environments for complex or system-level assignments requiring custom tooling or specialized runtime configurations.

Tower has also supported IIT Bombay’s Department of Computer Science and Engineering (CSE), with high-performance NVIDIA H100 GPUs for conducting large-scale AI experiments. Leveraging IIT Bombay’s in-house ed-tech platforms, this partnership aims to deliver highly practical online degree programs, standalone courses, and certification series tailored specifically for CSE students.
